USA Swimming Official’s Clinic Announced

Ever thought about donning the blue shorts and getting your shoes wet? Ever wonder what’s being served in the Hospitality Room? Here’s your chance to experience swimming up close and personal from the best seat in the house (figuratlively speaking…)

All kidding aside, USA Swimming prides itself on having the best officials in youth sports- period. From developmentals to Olympic Trials, our dedicated volunteer stroke and turn judges, starters, meet referees, et al. follow a strict set of rules and procedures to ensure a fair and accurate race. CAC parents have a strong tradition of helping the LSC in this regard— with 8 officials volunteering on a regular basis.

The process starts with a casual an informative meeting that outlines the fundamentals of officiating. This leads to an online test, a brief “internship” at a few meets, and its “offical”.

Jim Keogh will be offering a clinic 12 PM, May 1st at the Hartsville YMCA. Anyone interested in attending, please email Coach Fabio at fabiomauro_us@hotmail.com. Carpooling may be an option that can be arranged.

Yuko Gruber Will Attend Notre Dame in the Fall

Congratulations to CAC Elite Group swimmer, Yuko Gruber, who has received a scholarship to attend the fabled University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Yuko, a senior at Carolina Forest High School, plans to major in Biochemistry.

For the past year Yuko has been the Athlete Representative for the South Carolina Swimming Board of Directors. In the words of General Chair Doug Fetchen at last week’s All-State Banquet, “Yuko has set the bar very high for all athlete representatives who follow her.” She is dedicated, hard working and will achieve everything she sets her mind to. On a lighter note, swimcoastal.com expects a full report from PigTostal!

JAX50 a Great Success

Several CAC swimmers made the trek to Jacksonville, Florida during Easter break to enjoy a great sprint meet and Olympic Experience clinic that was the brainchild of former CAC Coach (and swimmer) Gus Calado and co-sponsored by the Aquatic Development Foundation.

The event received tremendous national media coverage through Swimming World Magazine, Swimming World TV.com, and ESPN 360. TYR used the event as a photo shoot opportunity for their 2011 swimwear catalog. 12 Olympians in one spot for a weekend of fun and comraderie doesn’t happen that often!

Look for more great events like this in the future. Thanks Coach Gus for a great time!
